Detailed information on leaf distillation is lacking, with little basic data on the<br />
effects of the various methods employed, such as oil yield and any change in oil<br />
consumption resulting from distilling fresh leaves or leaves wilted for upto 7 days, or<br />
charge composition and distillation time. This and similar information is essential to<br />
ensure that a distillery operates efficiently and profitably, and greatly assists the<br />
integration of leaf oil production with other plantation operations.<br />
GOVT INCENTIVES F<strong>OR</strong> <strong>CINNAMON</strong> PRODUCTION AND MARKETTING<br />
The state govt of Kerala , Tamilnadu and Karnataka have schemes for production<br />
and distribution of seedlings to a limited extent. Seedlings are distributed at present from<br />
the district Agricultural Farms at Kozha in Kottayam district, Mannuthy in Thrissur<br />
district, from Taliaparamba in Cannamore district and Peringamala in<br />
Thiruvananthapuram district, from Horticultural Research Station, Ambalavayal, in<br />
Calicut district of Tamilnadu and from the Horticultural Experimental Station, Chethalli,<br />
in Coorg districts of Karnataka. The growers in the respective states can contact them.<br />
Since the quantity of cinnamon bark produced is very much limited and scattered in<br />
some districts of Kerala and Tamilnadu, there is no established marketing system for it.<br />
Credit facilities to the farmers are available from the co-operative Credit Societies for<br />
cultivation of the crop.<br />
GRADING<br />
Cinnamon is available in the market in different grade designations in different<br />
countries, but the more common are the following 4 grades accepted by the ISO and<br />
ISI;that are graded according to their length, breadth and thickness.<br />
QUILLS<br />
They are the long compound rolls of bark upto 1 m in length, which constitute the<br />
best grade.<br />
