A few comments concerning my particular interests must suffice.
1. I have not found evidence of more than one or two redactors
at most, and the editorial activity that I can detect seems to be
self-consistent and skilfully artistic.
2. Even if Schottler's form-critical and traditio-historical work
could be shown to be soundly based, his suggestions concerning
the successive structures of the different recensions of the
text would have to be rejected. As far as I can see, there is no
attempt to determine or be governed by any objective criteria;
there is no attempt to demonstrate that the author-editor would
have characterized the various sections as Schottler does.
3. To undertake such a detailed study of Zechariah 1-6 rather
than 1-8 must be regarded as rash. (He presents a plan of
chs. 7-8 1 with three major divisions: 7.1-14 [1-3, 4-7, 8-14],
8.1-17 [1-2, 3, 4-5, 6, 7-8, 9-17] and 8.18-23 [18-19, 20-22,
23], but the discussion leading to this contains little more
reference to chs. 7-8 than a discussion of the introductory
formulae). We have found strong evidence of links at least
between the editorial sections of Zechariah 1-6 and 7-8, as
well as the same kind of structuring method in both blocks of
material.
