Note here the similarity of sound between "iptf and "ipl, which may
well be intentional, although I do not think we should be justified in
putting cc as the middle point.
If we consider impii as the centre of a chiasmus, and part of the
larger unit, 12.1-13.6, there are two variations of the abcba...c
pattern suggested in 9.5-7. In the case of "ipi (= c) it would be
reversed: c. ..abcba; in the case of n^3 in 12.4 and 13.6 we have
a(bcb)a.. .a'a". (The only other word common to these two verses is
'house of which does not seem to be significant.)
The overall plan of this whole section, then, is governed by the
introduction and continuation formulae that occur. Within this
structure it is possible to recognize smaller regular patterns. If we ask
whether there are important words that we have left unaccounted for,
and whether they confirm or undermine our conclusions so far, the
results are as follows.
nn occurs as part of the description of Yahweh in v. 1, where it is
combined with m»—and ~W\ It is possible that there is some connection
between this and the important turning point in v. 10, but I do
not think anything can be demonstrated.
D'to is repeated twice at the start of the announcement of Yahweh's
