See above. rmK, 13.4, does not seem to be connected with TJK in 11.13. mrr and btofir are linked in 11.14, but not in ch. 12, where m.T occurs six times, and ^toto' only in 12.1. "iw. It is likely that this is the wrong reading in 11.16; 1 even if it is correct, there is not likely to be a connection with mw in 13.5. TID represents two different roots: ~nj> (piel), to make blind, used of the horses in 12.4; and ~ni>, to awake, 13.7. The former does recall the emphatic use of nm in 11.17. However, it is impossible to demonstrate a connection between them. The result of this subsidiary investigation is almost entirely negative. The only plausible verbal connection seems to be via the word 'eye' and the idea of blindness as a punishment. The table of repeated words for this section is given in figure 13. General structure of the passages There is little dispute about the overall structure of these sections. It may be set out as follows: 11.4-17 The prophet as shepherd: part 1 11.4-6 Yahweh commanded me to shepherd the flock of slaughter (v. 6 already contains a theological interpretation) 11.7-14 I did so. (An account of what happened) 7 I shepherded the flock of slaughter (. .. ?. ..) and took two staffs 8 I destroyed three shepherds but became impatient with the sheep and they detested me 9 And I said I will not shepherd. .. let it die 10 And I broke the first staff. .. 11 ?? (Something connected with v. 7) 12 And I said Give me my wages. .. They weighed out thirty pieces of silver 13 Yahweh said Throw it to the ?potter?. .. and I threw it in the house of Yahweh to the ?potter? 14 And I broke the second staff. .. 1.
