TID represents two different roots: ~nj> (piel), to make blind, used of the horses in 12.4; and ~ni>, to awake, 13.7. The former does recall the emphatic use of nm in 11.17. However, it is impossible to demonstrate a connection between them. The result of this subsidiary investigation is almost entirely negative. The only plausible verbal connection seems to be via the word 'eye' and the idea of blindness as a punishment. The table of repeated words for this section is given in figure 13. General structure of the passages There is little dispute about the overall structure of these sections. It may be set out as follows: 11.4-17 The prophet as shepherd: part 1 11.4-6 Yahweh commanded me to shepherd the flock of slaughter (v. 6 already contains a theological interpretation) 11.7-14 I did so.
