Their names are still recognizable, but two have been changed to
words connected with dreaming (cf. Ps. 126.1?) or strength, 1 and
grace (cf. Zech. 4.7). It is tempting to say that in v. 10 the words n^ia
and *733, and possibly max p emphasize the exile, but v. 14 contains
hints of deliverance from exile, including the fact that max p rrtfK*
has become max p }n. If n^n means 'mole', then it is worth chang
ing! 2 If the text stopped at v. 14a it would seem incomplete, so we
must probably reckon with the whole of v. 14 as our supposed
original ending. This gives the following pattern:

The final word 'temple' would be a connection with the climax of
v. 12, and it would make more sense to think of our 'original' without
v. 13. If this was the case, then we can understand the probable
aims of the editor who added vv. 13 and 15. He doubled the phrase
hOTin run (by adding 13.#4 to 12.#17) and matched it by adding the
same at 15.#4 (14.#10 was already in place). Within this he used the
phrase IRCD "?K twice (in different senses), framing the second occurrence
of ]i"D consciously or unconsciously.
Verse 15aa (i.e. 15.##l-5) has the effect of adding a second climax
which refers to the future: those who are far off (like the named individuals
used to be) will come (cf. v. 10), and they will build the
temple. This is similar to the contrast between the men who come to
seek the favour of Yahweh in 7.2 and the peoples, inhabitants of many
cities, and strong nations who will come in the same way in the future
(8.20-23). We have good reason to see the hand of the final redactor
