9 And I lifted up my eyes and I saw
And behold
Two women going forth
and the spirit was in their wings
and they had wings
as the wings of a stork
and they lifted up the ephah
between the earth and the heavens
10 And I said to the angel who spoke with me
Where are they taking the ephah?
And he said to me
To build for it a house in the land of Shinar
and it will be established
and it will be made to rest there
upon its established place
I am not confident about discerning exactly what the author had in
mind in this final part. Nevertheless there is strong evidence throughout
vv. 5-11 of a concern to shape the account in an artistic way.
In attempting to sum up the results of this section of the enquiry, I put
forward the following conclusions:
1. We have considered all repeated words and discovered that
they fit into a logical progression of thought. It is unlikely
that anyone could produce new data or interpretations that
would refute these findings.
2. It is likely that there are features of the unit that have not
been properly investigated because the method used only
deals with repeated words, not with similar sounding words
(although we could not fail to notice some as we proceeded). 1
3. There are different ways of presenting the details of the unit,
which do not necessarily contradict each other, but it is
impossible to be sure of what the author had in mind in terms
of structural patterns.
4. There is a concern for structure in virtually all the material
we have so far investigated in the book of Zechariah.
