3. The Structure of Individual Sections of Zechariah 105
Part 2
14 Sing and rejoice O daughter of Zion
For behold I am coming
and I will dwell in your midst (oracle of Yahweh)
15 and many nations will join themselves to Yahweh. ..
and THEY WILL BE TO ME FOR A PEOPLE
and I will dwell in your midst
AND YOU SHALL KNOW THAT YAHWEH OF HOSTS SENT ME. . .
Part3
16 And Yahweh will inherit Judah his portion in the holy land
and will again choose Jerusalem
This would seem to be true to the overall sense of the whole of
vv. 10-16. It enables us to see the key points more clearly:
Flee. .. Nations (spoilers) to be spoil. .. You will know. ..
Rejoice. .. Nations to join themselves. .. You will know. ..
Notice also that v. 16 forms a nice contrast with vv. 10-11: the
v. 17 is completely appropriate here: there is a connection between
the land of Judah (made holy by Yahweh) and his own holy dwelling;
and the verse serves to re-emphasize the universal scope of his
jurisdiction. It is because he is Lord over all flesh that the things
spoken of previously can be proclaimed.
Zechariah 2.5-17
There are some words that are only repeated when we consider
vv. 5-17 together.
YD. The first occurrence is in the introductory formula 'and I lifted
up my eyes' (v. 5), which seems to have no connection with 'the
apple/pupil of his (my?) eye' in v. 12.
T vv. 5, 13. 'In his hand a measuring line' occurs in a salvation
prophecy for Jerusalem: it will become much greater in extent. 'I am
waving my hand...' is part of a judgment prophecy against
Jerusalem's oppressors. The word 'hand' does not seem to have any
particular significance in itself, nor does it seem to be related to v. 5.
30', vv. 8, 11. Jerusalem, which now dwells in captivity in
Babylon, v. 11, will dwell as mris, villages without walls. We should
