Securities Sold But Not Yet Purchased (Short Call) Issue 6 Alphabetical List of Field Definitions - S Supplementary (Liability) Data, Annual Item; Field 03059 Other Financial Companies: SECURITIES SOLD BUT NOT YET PURCHASED (SHORT CALL) represents the selling of a security which the seller does not own but will have to purchase so that the shares can be delivered to the buyer. This is usually done when the seller believes that the value of the stock will decline. The seller hopes to be able to purchase the shares needed to fulfil the sale at a lower price than he sold them for thus making a profit. It includes but is not restricted to: Bear positions (U.K. term) Margin accounts Securities Sold Under Repurchase Agreements Supplementary (Liability) Data, Annual Item; Field 03056 Banks, Other Financial Companies: SECURITIES SOLD UNDER REPURCHASE AGREEMENTS represent securities sold on a short term basis that are bought back by the bank. Repurchase agreements usually call for the securities to be bought back by a certain date at a stated price.
