Cucurmin is the principal component of the Indian
curry spice + yellow mustard powders. It is a
polyphenol giving yellow color to the turmeric
rhizome. With boric acid it gives a characteristic
red color indicating the formation of rosocyanine.
Curcumin acts as a free radical scavenger and
antioxidant, inhibiting lipid peroxidation ] and
oxidative DNA damage. Curcuminoids induce
glutathione S-transferase and are potent inhibitors of
cytochrome P450. Curcumin inhibits the transcription
of the viral DNA. Needs supplementation with
piperine to be taken up in sufficient quantity!!!
