Spices acting like herbs: Cayenne pepper A few cloves steeped in boiling water remedy nausea & vomiting Cayenne is a vasodilator (causes blood vessels to open) & rubefacient. Common powder from a grocery store shaker can thus cause near instant warming of the hands & feet on cold days or in people with reduced circulation. Cayenne contains a pungent resin-like substance known as capsaicin which is active ingredient of pepper spray, Irony: relieves pain and itching by neurotransmitter release & depletion. Without the neurotransmitters, pain signals can no longer be sent.
