The project description seemed straightforward: Design a website aimed at introducing astronomy to<br />
middle-school kids. As it turns out, once I sat down and started laying out the skeleton, sketching out the<br />
thumbnails, and coming up with a few color roughs to flesh out the design, I realized that my usual tricks<br />
and shorthand for corporate sites were just not going to work with my target audience. The sedate fiduciary<br />
look would be sure to cause a sleeping spell, and making some Expressionist or Bauhaus-inspired<br />
site would draw approving nods only from that one, hipster seventh grader sitting in the back <strong>of</strong> the class, quietly<br />
simmering in her own gloom.<br />
