• Sans Culottes were the urban poor,
the city-dwellers, craftsmen
• Peasants- most populous group, were generally
poor and subsistence farmers (just enough food
for them to eat) (w/serfs 80% of the Population)
– Corvee- applied to both groups (work as tax)
– Gabelle- salt tax
