WATERPOLO (Coach: Mr B de Wet)
Over the last 2 weeks Treverton boys waterpolo have played 3 games with our 1st team
playing against Michaelhouse 2nd team, Hilton 2nd team and the local derby against Weston
1st team, whilst our juniors have taken on Michaelhouse and Hilton under 15 B's and Weston
juniors. The junior side have won all three of their games, and won them convincingly. The
first game against Michaelhouse was the first time the juniors had played together as a team,
with a lot of the boys playing waterpolo for the first time ever. However this did nothing to
quash their confidence as they cruised to a comfortable victory of 8-1. Goals coming from
man of the match Sean Talbot and captain Uys Louw. The second game was against
Weston at home which we won by 13 goals to zero. which Talbot again scoring the majority
of the goals, helped out by Louw again and Robin Schell-Hammer. In the most recent game,
against Hilton, we were made to work a lot harder on defence, with our goal keeper being
tested a lot more, and our boys having to swim back and help out. The boys won that game
7-2, with Talbot Louw and Schell-Hammer all scoring goals. Man of the match in that game
was Goran Vujovic. In 3 games Sean Talbot has scored 23 goals. Remarkable for a boy in
his 1st season of waterpolo!
The 1st teams fortunes have been slightly different, playing 3 games, of which they won one,
lost one and drew one. Against Michaelhouse 2nds they lost 5-3, with a couple of silly errors
costing them 2 goals against them and one for them. It was a very tight game that could have
gone either way, unfortunately it went against us. Goals came from Matthew Smith, Devlin
Burgess and Tyrone Corfield. In the game against Weston we won 14-1, with the boys
playing a very open game using all the available space, with goals coming from Smith,
Corfield, Mike Reynolds, captain James Coetzee, John Elliot, William Lesar, Patrick Durham
and Pieter Veenstra. The game against Hilton was an incredibly tight affair with the final
score being 5 all! Goal scorers were Smith, Durham, Corfield and Lesar, with Patrick Durham
scoring a fantastic goal just after the final whistle, which would have won us the game had it
been before that whistle.
