Two and a half storeys, rubble with slate mansard roof. Two brick chimneys. Two dormers. Two windows, C19 sashes, bays on ground I floor. Arched doorways to left with modern doors and plain fanlights. Included for group value. A 1. a ; 5227 SPRING HILL .1;' t (north side) , ST 8499 6/16 30.5.51 , II The Lawn 2. It Front circa 1800 (incorporating earlier structure, see indications of *. steeper pitch gable to west). Front said to be by Nathaniel Dyer who was buried in the garden 1833. Two storeys, ashlar-built with block modillion course and blocking course to stone tile roof. One+three windows, 3 window | section has flanking shallow 2 storey bays and central columned brick portico and 6 panel door, C19 sash windows. Left hand bay slightly set back and blind. Return to east has ramped up parapet and attic, 2 attic windows blind with sash rebates, a 2 storey segmental bow to right, irregular 2 window fenestration to left. Projecting gabled wings to rear. Interior: front roomi to right has fireplace with Prince of Wales' feathers 3 motif to caps. [VCH Glos Vol XI p 209.] I ii35

Coursed rubble with stone tile roof (part plain tile to rear). Gable ends angled forwards (giving splayed U-plan). Gable ends have blocked pigeon-holes, left hand gable has arched window with keyed rusticated surround and a ground floor window with moulded architrave and square mullion. Right hand gable has steps up to door and window with timber lintel to left. Centre of front has 2 windows (casements), the first floor windows break slightly above eaves. The ground floor windows in rusticated surrounds, horse-trough under each window, segment headed doorway between. Left hand bay has segment headed door, the right hand bay has double doors under wide bressummer. Rear of right hand wing has 2 light window with chamfered mullion and drip. 1. 5227 SPRING HILL (north side) ST 8499 6/18 30.5.51 11* GV Spring hill House 2. The best building in Nailsworth. Apparently circa 1672 but more likely early C18. Ashlar. Three storeys. Five windows by 2, glazing bar sashes (and C19 1-4-1 square bay on ground floor to right), bolection architraves and moulded stone cills. Moulded string courses at floor levels. Balustraded parapet with panelled dies. Hipped modern tile roof with 2 gabled dormers and end chimneys. Large stone shell hood on carved scroll brackets, bolection surround, pilasters with moulded panels and concrete lions' heads to plinths, half glazed door approached by semi-circular steps. Early 019 three and 2 storey extension to rear, rear of main house altered, 4 storeys of irregular windows, mullion-type with rebated, ogee mouldings of the early C18 and drip-moulds. Original lead rainwater heads. Interior: retains "William and Mary" panelling, in 3 rooms, the ground floor right hand room has shell recess over 6 panel door to right of modern fireplace. Left hand ground floor room has a fine Adam-style fireplace. The best feature is the original half-spiral staircase from basement to attic, turned balusters, one per tread with scroll end carvings and panelled dado. Balusters continued across landings, string carved with garlands. 36

The best build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>Nailsworth</strong>. Apparently circa 1672 but more likely<br />

and moulded stone cills. Moulded str<strong>in</strong>g courses at floor levels. Balustraded<br />
