5227 OLD MARKET I lhe Fountain 3 ST 8499 6/116 T II 2. Dated 1862 (originally in Fountain Street). Hexagonal drinking fountain with crocketted spirelet capped by. poppyhead. Cusped arch with triangular head to each face, pink granite columns with carved foliate capitals. Three faces blind with texts, a valediction and "This fountain was erected f in 1862 as a memorial of the late William Smith Esquire of this village by those who admired his character and deplored his removal from them by a sudden death September 29 1861 at the age of 53 years' t . The valediction refers to Mr Smith as "an honest lawyer". f 1. 5227 PENSILE ROAD _____ I Pensile House ST 8599 6/117 A II 2. l) Early C19. Painted rubble with stone tile roof in 2 ranges. Three storeys, 3 windows, outer bays with later 2 storey angled bays. Plate glass sash windows (casements on second floor). Central Tuscan portico with panelled I door. Altered circa 1700 cottage of traditional Cotswold type,formerly a pair. Rubble with stone tile roof and 2 chimneys. Two attic gables with 2 light mullion windows and drips. Four later (C19) casements on ground floor 5 and 2 hipped lean-to porches, both doorways have chamfered surrounds with stops at each end of posts, modern half-glazed door to left, ledged door with strap-hinges to right. There is a single light window with cornice to right of left hand door. Rear has 4 windows, the inner ones mullioned. J North gable end has a range of mullion windows one light to attic, 3 light to ground floor. 30 a1,)
Interior: back to back inglenook fireplaces with wooden lintels and bread ovens. Rubble with Cotswold stone roof. Two half dormers (outer) and 2 attic dormers (cross gables with saddlestones). Modern chimneys. Two and 3 light casement windows with wooden lintels. Three doors. Left hand bay a C19 extension. Interior altered. Complex joints to roof trusses, one of which is carried on the wall plate which continues across one of the attic windows and has a lead peg. . ~1. 5227 RAGNAL LAINE ST 8499 6/143 II Hlillerest 2. C18 altered, one and a half storey gabled Cotswold cottage. Rubble with modern tiled roof. Two light mullioned windows with drips (chamfered mouldings) in gables, blind gable tip openings. Door in brick lean-to on road front in angle with later extension. Interior: the principal room has fireplace with stop chamfered surround and ridge stops to wooden lintel. 31
