BUILDINGS OF SPECIAL ARCHITECTURAL OR HISTORIC INTEREST

for your district.
2. Application for the registration of the document in the register of local land charges
will be made separately. A copy of the document is required to be made available for
inspection by the public. Extra copies of the document are enclosed for your use.
3. In accordance with the provisions of section 2(3) of the Act, the Council is required
to serve formal notice of listing or amendment on the owners and occupiers of each of
the buildings affected, except in the circumstances described in paragraph 4 below. The
form of notice is prescribed in the Town and Country Planning (Listed Buildings and
Buildings in Conservation Areas) Regulations 1990 (SI No 1519).
4. Where amendments to the statutory list do not involve the addition of a building to
the lists, or the deletion of a building, there is no statutory requirement for the Council
to service fonnal notice of the amendment on the owners or occupiers of affected
buildings. It is, therefore, for the Council to decide in such cases whether it wishes to
infonn owners and occupiers. However, it may be helpful if I mention that wherever
practicable btheDepartment sends a brief informal letter of notification to owners,
enclosing a copy of its leaflet, in all cases where the grading of a building is changed by
an amendment.
