Two and two and a half storeys. Rubble, partly stone tiled and partly plain tile roof. Half-hipped gable end. Two gabled chimneys to each return. Irregular C19 casements; glazed conservatory porch on ground floor. Projecting mid C19 wing to east with one range of 3 light casements and a 2 light first floor window, door in gable end. Garden front has 2 ranges of glazing bar sash windows, in arched recesses on ground floor, and a 3 light attic window. Interior: stone stairs with plain circa 1800 balusters. 1. 5227 ST 8599 6/88 II GV CHURCH STREET (south side) The Surgery 2. Formerly a Police Station. Early-mid C19 ashlar. Three storeys, band over ground floor. Cornice and blocking course. Stone tile roof. Three windows, glazing bar sashes. Central arched doorway. Gable and later catslide roof to rear. Wall to right with tall attic, pierced at each end; studded door. 11

5227 ST 8499 6/39 II GV COSSACK SQUARE Britannia Inn 2. Early C18 with later extensions. Three storeys. Rubble in thin courses. Slate roof, various chimeys, one ashlar to right with moulded capping, one side chimney to rear. Two plus three windows, 2 and 3 light casements with hollow chamfered mullions in rebated surrounds and with labels; right hand windows later. Central projecting lobby extension with entrance obscuring good moulded doorcase with pulvinated frieze and architrave (lower part returned above plinth). On each side of door is a narrow single light window with label extended to adjacent window. Plain C19 Tuscan portico with blocking course to right. Mid C19 single-storey extension to right with a pair of sash windows. Small blocked window to right of rear chimney. 1 . 5227 ST 8599 6/89 II FOUNTAIN STREET Stone built block at Day's Mill to rear of Fountain Street frontage 2. Tucked behind the later C19 Fountain Street frontage. Once called Nailsworth Nill. Thought to have been rebuilt circa 1800 for Jeremiah Day. Stone built with slate roof. Typical 3 storey mill building on the Nailsworth Stream. Seven windows to south, the right hand one blind. Modern door to left. Later 3 storey brick extension to left (probably for an engine). North front has slight 2 window break (originally for a pediment), bays divided 2-2-4, lower floors obscured. This building is shown as 10 bays wide with central pedimontedbreak in a mid C19 view illustrated in VCH Glos Vol XI opposite page 176. 12 l
