5227 ST 8499 6/28 II 30.5.51E GV CHESTNUT HILL (south-west side) Friends Meeting House 2. Mid C17 possibly converted from farm buildings of adjacent house. Repaired 1794 and 1810. Rubble with stone tile roof. Arched double doorway to left with stop-chamfered surround, keystone (device obscured by lamp-bracket), and imposts, square label with panelled diagonal stops and a half-round threshold stone. A pair of wide windows to right, set back chamfer surround and mullions, single label over. Two gables to right hand return, one with saddlestone and one range of windows - on ground floor a sash window inserted in opening of a former 3 light mullion window; part of the surround -used. Two storey extension to left with one window on each floor, 2 light casements, on ground floor chamfered mullion, set back chamfered surround and drip, on first floor an old leaded casement. Linked to No 1 Quaker's Close (qv). Interior: plain room with raised and fielded panelling and oak benches. Coursed and dressed rubble, band over ground floor. Stone tile roof. Irregular ashlar chimneys, one with moulded capping. Three windows, C19 glazed sashes with raised surrounds, pulvinated frieze and pediment to centre first floor window. Two French windows to terraced verandah on ground floor, doorway to left with tented canopy, 4 panel door with transom light. One bay extension to right. Two bay extension (1888) to left. Two dormers with bargeboards to gables. North-east end shews work of later C18 and early-mid C19. Part of rear consists of a 3 gabled brick extension. Quadrant entrance opposite garden entrance to The Deverells (qv). 9

1 . 5227 CHESTNUT HILL (north-east side) ( ST 8499 6/40 The Deverells r II GV 2. Central part early C18. Ashlar, pilaster strips to side with breaks in the cornice, band over ground floor, chamfered plinth. Cotswold t stone roof, 3 chimneys with moulded cornices. Two storeys and 2 gabled dormers with ball finials. Four windows, glazing bar sashes with architraves and keystones. Moulded t coved stone eaves cornice. Six panel door (upper 2 glazed) with plain hood-on brackets. The house has been enlarged by one bay at each end in rubble, cornice extended. Tall stair window to rear. Interior has a dog-leg, circa 1800, staircase and partly panelled hall. we 5227 CHESTNUT HILL 85996/6Church of St George a! ST 8599 6/86 II Wv p 2. 1898-1900, replacing N Dyers chapel of 1794. Designed by M H Medland in a Gothic style. Aisled nave, north porch and base of south tower (never completed and became a porch) chancel and vestries added 1938, also Gothic style.
