The following are special features and limiting factors relating to <strong>the</strong> production of aluminium
sulphate [50, CEFIC-INCOPA, 2004]:

<strong>the</strong> digestion process of aluminium hydroxide with sulphuric acid gives a yield of
practically 100 %, which means that <strong>the</strong> only emission from <strong>the</strong> production is some steam
coming from <strong>the</strong> reactor
as <strong>the</strong> process is exo<strong>the</strong>rmic, <strong>the</strong> energy consumption is negligible
grinding, screening and bagging <strong>the</strong> solid form of aluminium sulphate creates dust, but this
is taken care of by filters or scrubbers and is recycled back into <strong>the</strong> process, or sold as a fine
powder
only in <strong>the</strong> case of using bauxite as a raw material in liquid production, will <strong>the</strong>re be a waste
stream coming from <strong>the</strong> process in <strong>the</strong> form of insoluble silica, which is, however, less than
when <strong>the</strong> same amount of bauxite is used for <strong>the</strong> production of aluminium hydroxide.
