An excellent short term ley including red clover. The use of
italian ryegrass is to ensure maximum yields and quality from
a multicut short term ley.
The addition of red clover will improve silage quality and increase the
available protein within the ensiled forage. 67D date will be around
14-17th May. The grass element of the crop will after adequate
fertilisation return to 67D within 5 weeks subject to the normal
constraints of the weather. This will put the red clover at early bud stage
and whilst this will marginally reduce yield it will increase protein levels
of the harvested forage.
• 1-2 year red clover mix
• high protein levels throughout growing season
• improves soil structure and fertility
• red clover has the ability to yield in dry years
• suitable for the farmer wanting to place less reliance
on applied nitrogen
• 67d date circa 14-17th May
Protogen is comprised of hybrid ryegrass and red clover.
We have sought out the very best in hybrid ryegrass cultivars to
accompany our red clover blend. These grasses will compete favourably
with the aggressive growth habit of the clover, but will respond to a
dressing of straight nitrogen after cutting. This ensures the grass will
compete with the clover and that you will obtain a more balanced forage
going into the clamp. Delaying cutting to the flowering stage of the
clover will reduce protein content and will double ammonia content of
the silage. Red clover is known to possess constituents that can protect
protein during ensiling which makes this particular legume unique
amongst the non tanniferous legumes.
• 3 full years production from both the ryegrass
and red clover inclusion
• high yielding tetraploid hybrid ryegrasses are
complimented by high yielding red clovers increasing
yield and protein content
• both ryegrass and clover will be ready for re-cutting
after 6 weeks
• 67d date circa 12-16th May
• available with iseed ®
