ORGANISATION OF THE CURRICULUM In this curriculum, the knowledge strands below are used as a tool for organising the content of the subject Natural Sciences and Technology. Natural Sciences Strands Technology Strands Life and Living Matter and Materials Energy and Change Earth and Beyond Structures Processing Systems and Control Allocation of teaching time Time for Natural Sciences and Technology has been allocated in the following way: • 10 weeks per term, with 3.5 hours per week • Grades 4, 5 and 6 have been designed to be completed within 38 weeks • 7 hours have been included for assessment in terms 1, 2 & 3 • Term 4 work will cover 8 weeks plus 2 weeks for revision and examinations Below is a summary of the time allocations per topic. The time allocations provide an indication of the weighting of each topic. However, this is a guideline and should be applied fl e x ibly according to circumstances in the classroom and to accommodate the interests of the learners.
