6. Now you have an impression of the leaf or the bone. An<br />

impression is like a footprint in mud.<br />

7. Next, spread a very thin layer of Vaseline into the impression<br />

<strong>and</strong> around the impression, as you see in the picture below.<br />

When you pull the leaf or bone out, you leave an<br />

impression in the hard plaster. Smear Vaseline into the<br />

impression <strong>and</strong> around it.<br />

8. Then collect some runny wet plaster of Paris from your<br />

teacher <strong>and</strong> pour it over the Vaseline to cover the old plaster<br />

<strong>and</strong> fill the container almost to the top. Let the new plaster<br />

set for a day.<br />

Day Three<br />

9. Tear o the cardboard or plastic container from the plaster<br />

"rock" you have made. The fossil is hidden inside. You can<br />

paint the plaster to look like a rock.<br />

Get a plaster "rock" from another group, <strong>and</strong> tap gently on<br />

the side of their "rock".<br />
