Approximately 15 genera and 100 species have been described from the following<br />

regions, listed in order of number of species: Palcearctic, Nearctic, Neotropical,<br />

Ethiopian, and Australasian. Iapyx subterraneous Packard, (japyx), [,<br />

americanus MacGillivray, I, diversiunguis Silvestri are perhaps the best known<br />

North American species. The smaller species measure only six mm. whereas one<br />

of the largest species, Heterojapyx souliei (Bouvier), of Tibet, attains a length of<br />

49 mm. None of our species appears to enter extensively into insect collections.<br />

They are collected and mounted according to the directions for the CAM­<br />

PODEIDJE.
