bright hues of yellow, orange, and red. The biologies of many species are<br />

known. In addition to the normal predacious types which feed upon insects in<br />

general and are more or less beneficial, there are those which invade habitations<br />

in search of bedbugs and other household pests and which often inflict severe<br />

wounds on humans. Triatoma sanguisuga (Lee.), of North America and T. rubro-<br />

jasciata De Geer, a nearly cosmopolitan species, belong to this class. Others,<br />

which suck blood from rodents and other lower animals and man, are carriers<br />

of trypanosomes thai cause serious complications and even death to man.<br />

Triatoma megista (Burm.), T. infestans Klug, T. rubrovaria Blanchard, and<br />

other species transmit Chagas' disease caused by the trypanosome, Trypanosoma<br />

cruzi Chagas, in South America. Triatoma uhleri Nieva transmits Trypanosoma<br />

iriatomre Kofoid and McCulloch among wood rats in California.<br />

Triatoma rubrojasciata (De Geer) is suspected as an agent in the transmission<br />

of kala azar or black sickness in India.<br />

A number of species live under rocks and among debris. The sticky immature<br />

forms are camouflaged under a mass of particles that completely<br />

hide them, as is the case of the masked bedbug hunter, Reduvius personatus
