A small family composed of four genera and 13 species, all infesting kangaroos

tains eight species having four-segmented palpi. The two species of Latumcephalum
Le Soiief have two-segmented palpi. The members of the genus
Heterodoxus Le Soiief and Bullen have spines on the underside of the head and
constitute two species.
Family TRIMENOPONIDlE Harrison 1917 (Tri-men'o-pon'i-dre, from the
Greek rpLa, three, + Menopon; referring to the three thoracic segments).
A small family including the genera: Harrisonia Ferris, Trimenopon Cummings,
Philandesia Kell. and Nakayama, and Cummingsia Ferris occurring on
rodents in Central and South America.

f..Ihw, to remain, + 7roJ!os, pain; because of their annoyance to the hosts?).
Biting Bird Lice.
A large family of widely distributed species infesting birds and particularly
troublesome to domestic fowls. Among the most important species are the
common hen louse, Menopon gallinl£ Linn. (M. pallidum Nitzsch), a small,
pale-yellow species 1.0-1.5 mm. long, which infests poultry including chickens,
ducks, and pigeons and is probably the most destructive member in the order;
