of Los Angeles, Soja has been concerned with how we theorize space <strong>and</strong><br />

the politically charged spatiality of social life. He is the author of Postmodern<br />

Geographies: <strong>The</strong> Reassertion of <strong>Space</strong> in Critical <strong>Social</strong> <strong>The</strong>ory (1989), Thirdspace:<br />

Journeys to Los Angeles <strong>and</strong> Other Real-<strong>and</strong>-Imagined Places (1996), <strong>and</strong><br />

co-editor (with Allen Scott) of <strong>The</strong> <strong>City</strong>: Los Angeles <strong>and</strong> Urban <strong>The</strong>ory at the<br />

End of the Twentieth Century (1996). He is currently completing Postmetropolis,<br />

a comprehensive look at how the new urbanization is restructuring the<br />

contemporary megacity.<br />

Philip Tabor<br />

Professor Philip Tabor runs a graduate design studio <strong>and</strong> teaches architectural<br />

theory at <strong>The</strong> Bartlett, University College London. He is interested in<br />

the effect of telematic media on the idea of architecture.<br />

Helen Thomas<br />

Helen Thomas trained as an architect at Liverpool University <strong>and</strong> graduated<br />

as an architectural historian from <strong>The</strong> Bartlett, University College London.<br />

She has worked as an architect in London <strong>and</strong> Seville <strong>and</strong> has taught architectural<br />

history, theory, <strong>and</strong> design at <strong>The</strong> Bartlett <strong>and</strong> the University of<br />

North London. She has published various articles on spatial theory <strong>and</strong> Latin<br />

American architecture, <strong>and</strong> is currently researching her doctorate on postcolonial<br />

imaginations at the University of Essex.<br />

Bernard Tschumi<br />

Bernard Tschumi is principal of Bernard Tschumi Architects <strong>and</strong> chief architect<br />

of the Parc de la Villette, Paris. Having taught at the Architectural<br />

Association in London, the Institute for <strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>and</strong> Urban Studies in<br />

New York, Princeton University, <strong>and</strong> Cooper Union, he is currently Dean<br />

of the Graduate School of <strong>Architecture</strong>, Planning, <strong>and</strong> Preservation at Columbia<br />

University in New York. He is editor of D (Columbia Documents of<br />

<strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>The</strong>ory), Member of the Collège International de Philosophie,<br />

<strong>and</strong> recipient of France’s Gr<strong>and</strong> Prix National d’<strong>Architecture</strong> (1996).<br />

Lynne Walker was formerly Senior Lecturer in the History of <strong>Architecture</strong><br />
