regional development in Africa to his current work on the postmodernization
of Los Angeles, Soja has been concerned with how we theorize space and
the politically charged spatiality of social life. He is the author of Postmodern
Geographies: The Reassertion of Space in Critical Social Theory (1989), Thirdspace:
Journeys to Los Angeles and Other Real-and-Imagined Places (1996), and
co-editor (with Allen Scott) of The City: Los Angeles and Urban Theory at the
End of the Twentieth Century (1996). He is currently completing Postmetropolis,
a comprehensive look at how the new urbanization is restructuring the
contemporary megacity.
Philip Tabor
Professor Philip Tabor runs a graduate design studio and teaches architectural
theory at The Bartlett, University College London. He is interested in
the effect of telematic media on the idea of architecture.
Helen Thomas
Helen Thomas trained as an architect at Liverpool University and graduated
as an architectural historian from The Bartlett, University College London.
She has worked as an architect in London and Seville and has taught architectural
history, theory, and design at The Bartlett and the University of
North London. She has published various articles on spatial theory and Latin
American architecture, and is currently researching her doctorate on postcolonial
imaginations at the University of Essex.
Bernard Tschumi
Bernard Tschumi is principal of Bernard Tschumi Architects and chief architect
of the Parc de la Villette, Paris. Having taught at the Architectural
Association in London, the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in
New York, Princeton University, and Cooper Union, he is currently Dean
of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at Columbia
University in New York. He is editor of D (Columbia Documents of
Architecture and Theory), Member of the Collège International de Philosophie,
and recipient of France’s Grand Prix National d’Architecture (1996).
