When I first decided to practice wicca, I knew it would be a endless quest for knowledge.
Little did I realize, it began a long search for things I had never heard of. Items I couldn't
even pronounce, like Athame; alone finding one somewhere. Things are much easier now,
as there are occult shops and the Internet. But still, I don't think it is right, not being able to
practice a religion, due to lacking items in the ritual because of cost or inaccessibility. So, I have this
advice for anyone who may find themselves in this same dilemma. My first athame was a dollar store
knife I consecrated and decorated.
Many useful herbs can be found in discount grocery stores, dollar stores and even in nature. Get a field
guide from the library, and sees what grows locally. Remember when collecting from nature, don't take
more than you need, & NEVER use any plants you collect for medicinal use. People have unfortunately
been poisoned by collecting the wrong type of plants.
Epsom Salts and Table Salts work fine for consecration.
Most, if not all libraries have books on wicca in which you can check out and Xerox information.
Regular grill charcoal can be used to burn herbs, as well as several layers of aluminum foil to be used as
a candle holder, cauldron or incense holder. The foil will deflect the heat and protect the surface from
wax.
My altar, is a end table I picked up at a yard sale and refinished .
Charms & Amulets, as well as Runes, can be made with clay or filmo.
Index cards can be used to make tarot cards. Meanings can be written on one side, and illustrations on the
other. If you don't feel you are artistic enough to draw images , look for pictures in magazines, old
greeting cards, & even off food boxes.
Dowsing Rods in divination , can be made by making two "L" shaped wires from coat hangers. The
bottom of the "L" should be about 4", with the longer section of the "L" being about 14". Take a plastic
straw and cut into two pieces. These pieces slip over the 4" end of the wires to allow free movement
when held. These rods are then held parallel, and will cross when reaching magnetic anomalies.

Although there are hundreds of kinds of divination, the principle ones are astrology,
geomancy, the tarot, the I Ching, and direct psychic means (especially clairvoyance). True
divination is more than a mechanical system, for it implies true psychic interpretation
(receiving). Some form of divination is often used in magick ritual to communicate with the
entity invoked.
Since divination operates through the mind, it is affected and biased by the mind. Our attitudes and fears
may alter it. Sometimes results are very detailed, and accurate - but not always. Often the future is plastic
and changeable anyway, and the use of magick may alter the result. Thus divination shows tendencies
only, which may be helpful, but must not rule us.
Developing Clairvoyance
It is possible to improve your natural ability with clairvoyance through practice. A good start might be to
look around you, then close your eyes and try to picture your surroundings. This is also good exercise for
