PathWalkers.Net Interactive :: Helping you along your path had betrayed the followers of the Old Religion. It's origin is Scottish. Because of the negative connotations, it is not used by most Wiccans today. WATCH TOWERS- Originally from the Enochian branch of Ceremonial Magick, now incorporated into many "Traditions" of Wicca, these are the four elemental "directions" or "quarters" (corresponding to the appropriate points on the compass) called to protect the Circle during its establishment. Each of them have a correspondence between the compass point, an element, and (varying amongst different traditions) color associated with them. WICCA- the name most modern day Witches use for the Craft. It comes from the Anglo-Saxon word Wicce, meaning to bend or to shape. This is the root word from which we get wicker. WIDDERSHINS- counter clock wise. Used for "tearing down" OR BANISHING magick. WHITE HANDLED KNIFE- the working knife of a Witch. It is used to carve candles, and for fashioning the other tools. Traditionally, it can only be used in a Circle. Copyright 1992 by Rowan Moonstone and Durwydd MacTara. General information: Sacred Trees Posted by: Nyxks on Monday, July 19, 2004 - 08:13 PM The ancient Druids did not worship trees per say, but they did respect what the trees represented. Each tree had a personality that the Druids would try to emulate or would worship as being an aspect of the Divine. Trees were used as bridges between the spiritual and material planes, and often represented Gods/Goddesses, concepts, letters of the alphabet or the elements. Sacred clearings or groves were used for worship and learning, but no trees were cleared if there was not a natural clearing available. Temples were constucted around the forest with a keen knowledge that one must become one with Nature and must respect the life within. Alder: Used for protection and divination, this wood is used to symbolize the God Bran. Apple: Used for love and healing, this tree is one of the oldest symbols of fertility. Ash: Used for spells requiring focus and discipline, this creates a bridge between the spiritual and material planes. Beech: Used to get in touch with your ancestral past, it promotes insite and stability. Birch: Associated with love and fertility magick, it is used extensivly with healing. Used as a symbol of Thor. Blackthorn: Used to symbolize Fate, and that one cannot escape it. Elder: Used to symbolize Freya, it is a symbol of Witches. Represents the continuous circle of life and death. http://www.pathwalkers.net/interactive/modules....ame=News&file=index&catid=&topic=1&allstories=1 (113 of 284) [12/25/2005 12:22:21 AM]
