The drill string float valve is usually<br />
placed in the lower-most portion of the<br />
drill string, between two drill collars or<br />
between the drill bit and drill collar.<br />
Since the float valve prevents the drill string<br />
from being filled with fluid through the bit as<br />
it is run into the hole, the drill string must be<br />
filled from the top, at the drill floor, to<br />
prevent collapse of the drill pipe.
