This is a rare but locally abundant species <strong>of</strong> our more acid fen peats. At Holme Fen, it is has<br />
declined in abundance as a result <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> closing over <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> birch canopy (Wells, 2003).<br />

This rare species occurs in a range <strong>of</strong> conditions. At Holme Fen it is locally abundant on peat<br />
under birch trees, in Huntingdon it is a denizen <strong>of</strong> old walls while at Paxton Pits it can be<br />
found on bare gravelly substrates associated with old gravel workings.<br />
