4.3.10 Utilities<br />

Any maintenance or replacement <strong>of</strong> underlying<br />

pipe work for water, gas and o<strong>the</strong>r utilities will<br />

need careful management to minimise damage<br />

to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Beeches</strong>. It is essential that habitat and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r work do not inadvertently damage<br />

underground services.<br />

Target: to ensure <strong>the</strong> precise location and<br />

details <strong>of</strong> all utility lines are known and<br />

maintained to <strong>the</strong> correct standard.<br />

Achieved by: locating, marking on maps<br />

and liaison with relevant utility companies.<br />

4.3.11 Geology/Hydrology<br />

The hydrology <strong>of</strong> <strong>Burnham</strong> <strong>Beeches</strong> has been<br />

well studied in <strong>the</strong> past because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gravel<br />

quarry just to <strong>the</strong> south at East <strong>Burnham</strong>. While<br />

<strong>the</strong> quarry is still functional <strong>the</strong> operator has a<br />

responsibility to monitor ground water levels in<br />

and adjacent to <strong>Burnham</strong> <strong>Beeches</strong> and ensure<br />

<strong>the</strong>re is no negative impact. The results are<br />

discussed at <strong>the</strong> regular gravel liaison meetings<br />

attended by <strong>City</strong> staff.<br />

Water quality and quantity may be issues <strong>of</strong><br />

concern in <strong>the</strong> future.<br />

Target: no significant avoidable harmful<br />

changes to <strong>the</strong> hydrological regime.<br />

Achieved by: ensuring consultation and<br />

participation in hydrological issues related<br />

to <strong>the</strong> quarry and taking expert advice if and<br />

when necessary.<br />

4.3.12 Emergency planning<br />

It is essential that plans are in place to deal with<br />

unexpected emergencies, including fires.<br />

Target: ensure emergency plans are<br />

available for instant use.<br />

Achieved by: review at least every 3 years.<br />
