Pre-Primary
There were some slippery and slimy
visitors to the Pre-Primary last
week…much to the delight of (most
of) the children!!

BUNDU BASH 2012
Thank you to all our Sponsors:
And to all those parents and friends who
provided prizes for the various events!
Your support is much appreciated.

The Treverton Bundu Bash was held on Saturday the 8th of September, with a record
number of 538 participants. In the days preceding the race Mooi River experienced close to a
100mm of rain and this presented a number of challenges to Athol Davies, Brad Neal and his
organisation team. Several kilometres of single track had to be abandoned because of the
Mooi River bursting its banks. Despite the setbacks the race day was dry and participants
were able to enjoy a muddy but manageable track.
Multi sport events are growing in popularity and our event was well supported. The
atmosphere around the start/finish area was exciting and it was good to see so many pupils
taking part in such good spirits. A huge amount of excitement was generated by the Bundu
Buddies events and these youngsters will definitely be the multi sporters of the future. The
Treverton staff were fully involved on the day and eighteen members of staff were able to
participate in the various races.
A comprehensive set of results is available on the ROAG website. Below are the names
of the first three Treverton pupils in each event:
Chainsaw
1st Catherine Pellow-Jarman (1st female and 6th overall)
2nd Matthew Smith
3rd Karsten Hols
1st Justin Kemp
2ndTravis van der Westhuyzen
3rd Barrie Ferreira
2nd Kyle Johnstone
3rd Emily Marshall
15KM Trail Run
Thank you to
each and every
participant and to
all those who
assisted in
making the day a
wonderful
success!

Thank you to Debbie Malcolm and her team of dedicated KZN
Parents for keeping us all well fed on the day!
Parents´ Open Day and Revue
Thursday 13th September and Friday 14th September
The second round of parent-teacher meetings will be facilitated next week in the Hudson-Reed
Hall at the times listed in the schedule. The format will be the same as the meeting that took
place in May. All academic staff will be in the Hudson-Reed Hall. There will also be
presentations for Grade 9 pupils and parents, at which subject choices for Grades 10 -12 and
university entrance requirements will be discussed.
An addition to the programme on the two days will be a presentation by Mr Jason Hyam
about the inherent dangers of using sports supplements. He has presented this talk to
every class in the school and we would like to give parents the opportunity to be
enlightened about this somewhat controversial topic.
I realise that it will be quite a juggle for many of you parents to see all your child’s teachers as
well as trying to attend the two other presentations. To this end, we will make the contents of
both presentations available, either via the website or by e-mail for those who request it.
Mr Dave Cato - Headmaster
Solitaire
On Friday 3 August, 8 intrepid young boys boarded the Treverton bus and headed East to
Glenrock Game and Trout Farm to spend 48 hours of solitude (no food, no watch, no phone,
only a Bible to read, no company... and lots of writing material) to try out for their Solitaire
Award. Under the watchful eye of Instructors, Jonathan Ogden and Keagan Taylor, 7 of the
boys made it through the longest 48 hours of their lives and became seasoned Solitarians.
Congratulations to:
Christopher O'Donoghue, Wesley Lecler, Liam Lage (Liam won the prize - a slab of chocolate -
for creating the best 'Friend' from materials inside his area.), Brenton Golding (Brenton won the
prize for building the best shelter.) and Christiaan De Jager on gaining their Solitaire Awards;
and to Jonathan Ogden and Keagan Taylor on achieving their Solitaire Instructor Awards.
The next group of aspirant Survivors was a group of 6 girls who started out on the afternoon of
31 September to attempt their 48 hours of Solitaire at Edwaleni Farm Campsite in the Hidden
Valley. The whole group made it this time and so it's well done to:
Tarnah Cartwright (Tarnah won the Best Shelter prize.), Minette Prinsloo, Sasha Botha,
Sandhira Harichand (Sandhira won the best 'Friend' prize.) and Tamsyn Edgecumbe on
gaining their Solitaire awards; and to Jennifer Reed and Kelly Cosgrove on achieving their
Solitaire Instructor Awards.
Soccer
2 nd Boys vs Howick (Coach: Mr S Whitfield)
On Monday 3rd September Treverton 2nd Boys Soccer team played Howick. A welcome back
to the captain Naverone Albers saw a match that was closely contested with both teams
generating lots of chances. Howick opened the scoring but David Bunduki soon equalized with
one of his good probing runs. Howick scored an own goal but levelled matters shortly after halftime.
Rikus Van der Westhuyzen scored from a good shot but again Howick levelled to make
the final score 3-3.
On Wednesday 5th September the 2nd Boys Soccer played Weston 1sts. Weston opened the
scoring but Treverton got one back after a good cross by David Bunduki. Weston scored again
just before half time to turn at 2-1. The second half saw Treverton fire at least 20 shots at goal
and dominate territorially but alas to no avail as Weston put another goal in to make the final
score 3-1 to Weston.
POST MATRIC
G.A.P. Year Post Matriculation Programme
After all the Posties had a pleasant rest during half term we have been inspired to give our all
for the rest of term that lies ahead. We immediately started our training for the Expedition as we
cycled through various Mooi River farms. We continued with our expedition planning as well
and things are starting to come together. We met up with Mrs Snow as she helped us with the
educational aspect of the expedition.
We had two Toastmasters sessions where we were taught about body language, power point
presentations and how to make a toast. The majority of Posties learnt a lot of speaking skills,

where some learnt how to freestyle. We will have our last session of Toastmasters this week
and all of the Posties are quite excited to get all dressed up.
Mr. Davies and Mr. Neal gave the Posties a wellness project where each Postie needed to
research and present on topics such as explain the hazards of our water and food. All the
Posties presented their projects and it was clear that there was great effort put into the all the
projects.
On Saturday and Sunday some of the Posties went on a hike with a small group of the College
School Boys and Mr Neal to the Amphitheatre and Tugela Falls. On the first day of the hike the
wind was extremely harsh and almost blew us off the mountain. Everyone slept in a cave and
the morning we woke up we were above the clouds. It was an absolutely beautiful trip up to the
falls for the
clouds
covered
most of the
ground.
Our first
week back
has been
absolutely
exciting and
fun filled. A
great start to
a new half
term.
Post Matric -
Adele Botes.
