From the Director to the
FLORIDA COUNCIL
OF YACHT CLUBS

First let me thank Commodore Peter Heinen for the opportunity to
serve our club as the Director to the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs for the upcoming year. I
consider it a privilege to represent our fine club at the bi-monthly meetings. Tim Findley will
serve as the Alternate Director. I also want to thank Jon Williams for his service as Director for
our club for the past several years. He has done a fine job and I hope to continue that tradition.
On the weekend of March 8-10, many of our members travelled to the Isles Yacht Club in
Punta Gorda for the general meeting of the Council, with 37 of the 38 clubs in attendance.
In addition, it was the Change of Watch for the FCYC. We were able to celebrate the installation
of the new Commodore, Ray Starsman (Isles Club) and his bridge and we wish him
well in the coming year. Our own Dentis McDaniel ended his time on the executive committee
(over ten years), stepping down as Immediate Past Commodore. Also, Jon Williams was
recognized for his service as Fleet Captain East. Our club has a long tradition of service and
dedication to the FCYC. Members attending this weekend were Ed and Marlow Baranowski,
John and Andrea Hogan, P/C Bruce and Carol Hess, Bill and Margie Matheson, P/C Dentis and
Jean McDaniel, Harry and Darlene Pawlak, John and Edy Williams and of course, Terri and I.
There were several interesting topics covered over the weekend. Of note was during
the Government Affairs session, we continue to monitor the E15 fuel issue as it effects
the marine industry. We have joined other boating groups in opposition of instituting
this due to the negative effects on the marine engine. Also, there was a presentation
from Raymarine on the latest in marine electronics. There is some pretty cool stuff
out there. One of the benefits of the council is that we police each other on how members
are treated when visiting and ensuring adherence to FCYC bylaws. Two clubs
had instituted policies that the council objected to and both rescinded the policies.
If you notice anything in your travels, please let me know. In addition, the FCYC is producing
a video featuring all 37 clubs to use as an informational piece to our members
about the Council. Look for a meeting in the future where we will present this video.
Finally, we had a tremendous time visiting with old friends and new during the social
hours and dinner. Saturday night we were treated to a wonderful dinner followed
by dancing and socializing until way too late for some of us. The next meeting of
the council will be on May 17-19 at the Harbor Ridge Yacht & Country Club in Stuart.

On the Waterfront
Wow, what a great March for
boating! I hope everyone is
taking advantage of this unusually
warm weather. The
waterfront at EGYC has been
booming and we are continuing
to expand its activities.
Our main focus at the moment;
is the upcoming sail-

ing program we are implementing this summer.
EGYC used to be known for its competitive sailing
and I am excited to be involved in bringing it back
to the club. We are continuing to form an advisory
committee for the formation and planning
of the program - so if you are an avid sailor and
would like to participate, please let me know! I am
also looking for qualified instructors who not only
have experience but also a passion for sailing. If
you are interested or have suggestions of qualified
candidates please e-mail me at dock@egyachtclub.
com. On top of forming our program, we will be
purchasing Open Bics and 420 sailboats.
As we head into Spring, don’t forget our Kayaks
and Stand Up Paddleboards, complimentary for all
members to use on a first come basis. These watercrafts
are a great way to get out and explore the river
while getting good exercise. They are simple to use,
hard to flip, and are a sure way to have fun for the
day. Please remember all children under the age of
18 must sign an indemnity waiver and parental permission
form before they may utilize these crafts.
Also, Lifejackets must be worn at all times whether
you are an adult or child.
Lastly, you may have noticed when you look out
the window at the harbor, our docks are getting
more and more full. We have had some new boats
come in to our harbor and the main docks are finally
looking robust and busy again. However, I
still have room for you if you have a boat that is
less than 42’. Any slip is available for $6.00/foot
per month, plus .10c per kilowatt metered electric.
April should be another beautiful month here at
the club so get out and enjoy the water!
