RULES <strong>2012</strong><br />

All exhibitors competing at BSPA shows shall be considered as having read the following<br />

Rules. Exhibitors will be considered under BSPA Rules as soon as they enter the Ring.<br />

CHAMPIONSHIPS<br />

Riders/H<strong>and</strong>lers may not be changed for any Championship unless the Rider H<strong>and</strong>ler has qualified<br />

more than one exhibit at Championship Shows. Permission must be obtained.<br />

MINIATURE SHETLANDS<br />

Miniature Shetl<strong>and</strong>s 34” <strong>and</strong> under must be ridden in classes by a rider of the appropriate size to that<br />

pony. Judges discretion will apply.<br />

LEAVING THE RING<br />

Exhibitors walking out of the ring without seeking permission from the Judge may be refused entry<br />

into subsequent classes.<br />

<strong>JUDGES</strong><br />

In the event of a fall of horse or rider, all Judges must report the incident in writing to the BSPA Office<br />

within 7 days of the incident occurring.<br />

RIDE <strong>JUDGES</strong><br />

Ride Judges falling or being thrown from exhibits may not remount the exhibit they have fallen or<br />

been thrown from (in these circumstances the exhibit must be removed unmounted from the ring).<br />

Judges may at their discretion continue to judge the class on individual display. Should the Judge who<br />

has fallen or been thrown from an exhibit decide to continue ride judging, they do so entirely at their<br />

own risk. All exhibits previously ridden by the Judge must also perform an individual display. In the<br />

event of the Judge being unable to continue a substitute Judge may be appointed who will also judge<br />

the class on individual display <strong>and</strong> will not ride. Should a substitute Judge not be available to judge,<br />

the class will be ab<strong>and</strong>oned. No refund of fees in these circumstances.<br />

TRIMMING<br />

It is recommended that Traditional Cob Horse <strong>and</strong> Pony beards may be trimmed from the jaw line.<br />

Muzzle whiskers, moustache, nasal hair should be left untrimmed. Long hairs may be trimmed from<br />

outside the ears, no trimming of interior ear hair is recommended. Mane, tail <strong>and</strong> feathers should be<br />

left untrimmed, the only exception is when mane <strong>and</strong> tail hair is so long as to present a health or<br />

safety issue, then trimming is recommended <strong>and</strong> may be requested.<br />

HEALTH & SAFETY<br />

The BSPA has reviewed its Health & Safety Policy <strong>and</strong> now wish all Judges <strong>and</strong> Members to carry<br />

a personal basic information sheet for use by BSPA or medical personnel in the event of illness or<br />

injury.<br />

This confidential information should be carried in the right h<strong>and</strong> jacket or coat pocket.<br />

The form should contain the following information:<br />

• FULL NAME<br />

• ADDRESS<br />

• CAR NUMBERPLATE<br />

• HOME TELEPHONE NUMBER OR CONTACT NUMBER<br />

• ESSENTIAL MEDICAL DATA (e.g. blood group, allergies, any personal medication or<br />

health condition<br />

• NEXT OF KIN + TELEPHONE NUMBER<br />

The BSPA will only access this information during a serious incident or personal emergency.<br />

The data accessed will not be disclosed to any third party other than medical personnel *Doctor<br />

or Paramedic).<br />
