Bearcat Basketball Hits the Court

Ruston High girls‘ and boys‘ basketball officially
kicked their seasons off last month. Both teams have been
working hard daily to keep up with their busy schedules.
Earlier this month, the teams played two very important
home games in consecutive days, the first against Arcadia
and the second against Winnfield.
On Tuesday December 6, the boys defeated the Arcadia
Hornets by a score of 54-32. The ‗Cats were led in scoring
by Jamaya Burr, who had 17 points, and Jerry Melton,
who had 16. The next day, the girls‘ and boys‘ teams
played a rescheduled game against Winnfield.

The girls suffered a 52-33 loss to the Tigers while the
boys won their second straight by a score of 60-48. In the
game, Jamaya Burr scored 18 points and Jerry Melton
scored 23 points, which included an emphatic slam dunk
towards the end of the game. Alexio Williams-Hargrove
was the defensive MVP of the game, with 5 steals and 6
rebounds. The Bearcats‘ next game is tonight against the
Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs at 8:30 PM. Come out and
support the Bearcat basketball teams during their home
tournament this week!
