COM (Customer’s Own Material)
All seating can be upholstered with appropriate material furnished by the
customer. Prices are listed under grade 2.
Yardage requirements shown in this list are based on the use of
non-directional fabric 54" wide and the fabric being cut “up the roll.” If the
COM fabric is to be railroaded, please contact customer service for revised
yardage requirements.
• When ordering 10 or more COM chairs, consult customer service for
exact yardage requirements.
• Reference pages 391 - 407 for specific repeat COM ydg. requirements.
• Directional covers, such as stripes, patterns and plaids may not
meet your satisfaction due to contoured shapes and tufting of
some models. Should you require such a selection, orders are not
subject to return. If in doubt, contact customer service prior to
placing the order.
• Please refer to textile application guidelines listed on p. 27 or the
COM Approval Search on www.NationalOfficeFurniture.com when
ordering a COM.
Customer’s Own Leather (COL)
National is pleased to cooperate with COL selections whenever this special
need arises. Customer’s own leather specifications for National seating
shown within this price list are based on an average hide size of 45-50
square feet. Consult customer service for requirements for other hide sizes.
Prices are listed under grade 3.
• Please note, leather is a natural product and variation in texture
is a pleasing quality belonging exclusively to high grade, full top
grain leathers.
• All square footage requirements are based on usable footage; the
shape of a hide and the usable, clean footage may make it
necessary for us to request more leather after COL is received.
• Calf hides must be at least 30 square feet of clean and usable
matching hides. When specifying calf hides, add 15% to COL
requirements shown in the price list.
COM Disposal
• Leftover COM from an order is held for 6 weeks
• COM not tied to an order is held for 3 months
COM/COL Evaluation
National reserves the right to inspect, approve, or reject any COM/COL.
National approval signifies only that such textile/leather can be applied to
the products for which intended. Such approval does not constitute any
responsibility, liability, or warranty on the part of National as to
appearance, behavior, durability or tailoring of COM/COL.
COM Decorative Patterns
• Yardage requirements are greatly affected by not
only size of repeats, but also by the print or pattern.
• National cuts all seating patterns with aesthetic
concerns in mind for high quality and consistency.
• Refer to particular model in price list to find yardage
required for pattern.
The line drawing below depicts two seat cushions in necessary/proper
placement on a piece of decorative fabric. Please note the unusable fabric.
It is not always appropriate to place a seat pattern at the edge of the
fabric. Due to this circumstance, please include an additional ½ yard per
order.

COM Directional Fabrics
• Some COM fabrics are considered directional that may not be
considered directional by the fabric supplier, due to the upholstering
process used by National.
• Application of COM upholstery will be depicted as on the COM supplier
memo sample or website. If a different application is desired the
pattern would need to be custom quoted.
• Arc-Com/CF Stinson/Maharam/Momentum/Ultrafabrics Alliance
upholsteries will be applied as depicted on the supplier memo sample or
website. If a different application is desired the pattern would need to
be custom quoted.
TB133
California Technical Bulletin No. 133 – Flammability test procedure
for seating furniture used in public occupancies. National provides preapproval
for TB133 chair/COM fabric combinations. The availability of
TB133 on specific chair/alliance fabric combinations can be found at
www.NationalOfficeFurniture.com/COMApprovalSearch . Even though we try
to keep this document as accurate as possible, the supplier may change
contents, finishes, etc... without our knowledge. Customer needs to confirm
that the information on this listing matches the content information from
the COM supplier. If no test data is available for a particular fabric/chair
combination, the TB133 order will not be allowed. These pre-approved
alliance fabrics can be ordered as standard product – no custom quote
required.
To order seating to meeting the TB133 fire code, specify an “F” at the end
of the model number (Ex: N59AAF).
If the COM material you want is not in the COM database, please submit a
sample per the instructions outlined on page 29 .
If a fabric/chair combination has not been burn tested, the customer has
the option of having it tested. Pricing for the testing will be $ 1300 list,
including shipping for testing services plus the chair price (test sample).
TB133 testing requested by the customer will require a custom quote. The
fabric/chair burn test results will determine whether future orders can be
ordered as standard product or custom quotes. Each instance may vary.

Letters of assurance are available upon request. A letter of assurance
verifies that a TB133 test was conducted on a combination of chair/fabric
comparable to the requested chair/fabric.
