Subject: Ice Damper Sticking On Indigo Model Ice Machines
The ice damper contains a magnet that opens and closes the bin switch. The damper and bin
switch must be closed to make ice.
There have been sporadic instances of ice dampers not returning to a fully closed position after
ice harvest. The ice damper drags on the lower extrusion arm on machines that do not have
enough clearance between the two parts. Depending on ice drop recoil, vibration and component
temperature, the damper may fail to close.
The ice machine will have a serial number between 1101027125 and 1101087043 and have
some or all of these symptoms:
• Low production (may be intermittent) with no safety limits in memory.
• Owner notices the ice machine is off at a time when it is normally running.
• The ice machine starts a new freeze cycle when bumped.
If you determine the ice machine has this damper issue, refer to the illustrations on the reverse to
repair. If the repair does not resolve the issue order part number 000002056 and replace the ice
damper.
The issue can often be resolved by rounding the right angle edge on the inside of the ice damper.
Refer to photo’s and use sandpaper, nail file, emery board, etc. to break the edge. Both ends of
the damper will require rounding of the edge. Gently cycling the damper open/closed will
determine whether rounding the edge resolved the problem. If the damper sticks after rounding
the edge, replacement of the damper will be required.
