B8. Weight-Based Teasing Scale
How often do any of the following things happen?
1. You are treated with less respect than other people
2. People act as if they’re better than you
3. You are called names or insulted
4. You are teased about your appearance
5. You are teased about your weight
Scoring Instructions
Point values are assigned as follows:
Never = 0
Less than once a year = 1
A few times a year = 2
A few times a month = 3
At least once a week = 4
Responses can be used individually or can be
summed to create a single scale score; the range
for the scale score is 0 to 20. Individual item
responses are examined descriptively, and the
overall scale score is examined in relationship
to school connectedness and academic
achievement. Higher scores indicate more
weight-based teasing victimization.
