Section “G” - Residential Domestic <strong>Water</strong> Service<br />

3.0 RESIDENTIAL SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS<br />

3.1 Copper service pipe shall be a continuous run <strong>of</strong> Type "K" (W.H.) 3rd party s<strong>of</strong>t copper,<br />

minimum 19 mm in diameter.<br />

3.2 Copper services shall enter through the building wall or under the footings.<br />

3.3 On a service <strong>of</strong> 50 mm and smaller, a main stop shall be installed at the watermain.<br />

3.4 <strong>Water</strong> services terminated in a crawl space or any other inaccessible areas will not be<br />

accepted.<br />

3.5 Any services larger than 50 mm shall be installed in accordance with procedures outlined in<br />

Section F - Installation and Construction.<br />

3.6 Curb boxes shall be sized for the service. The service box shall be installed in a<br />

perpendicular manner, properly adjusted to final grade. A 36” stainless steel service box rod<br />

must be installed.<br />

3.7 Curb stops shall be placed on the street property line.<br />

3.8 Curb stops shall be ball style with compression connection.<br />

3.9 Couplings shall be copper compression.<br />

3.10 There shall be no couplings under the foundation or floor <strong>of</strong> the building or inside the<br />

building. Only one (1) coupling is permitted between the curb stop and the angle meter<br />

valve for services under 50 mm.<br />

3.11 No couplings will be permitted between the watermain and the curb stop for services under<br />

50 mm.<br />

3.12 An angle meter ball valve, complete with compression connection, is to be installed on all<br />

residential water services, at the point the service enters the building and prior to the water<br />

meter.<br />

3.13 Angle meter valves shall be no less than 300 mm and no more than 450 mm above the<br />

finished grade.<br />

3.14 Trench depth shall be a minimum <strong>of</strong> 1.7 metres deep from final grade. Where the 19 mm<br />

service cannot maintain 1.7 metres due to the elevations <strong>of</strong> utilities, the contractor shall<br />

install 4.0 metres <strong>of</strong> 100 mm PVC SDR28 liner, a minimum <strong>of</strong> 0.5 metres below the utility.<br />

This will allow for the installation/removal <strong>of</strong> the water service.
