High-Torque in a Compact Package – 2200 lbs. of Axial Closing Force
❑ With most pneumatic collet closers, the amount of gripping torque
that can be applied to a workpiece is a function of both the input air
pressure and the surface area of the closer’s piston. The higher the
input pressure, and/or the larger the piston area – the greater the
torque that can be achieved.
❑ In most shops, air pressure is limited to around 100 psi, so in order to
achieve enough gripping torque, the piston, and consequently overall
size of the closer, must be quite large.
❑ The drawback of a large diameter collet closer is that it takes up a lot
of space. This is especially a problem when customers wish to gang
multiple closers for optimized throughput.
❑ Royal high-torque self-contained collet closers overcome this problem
by utilizing a system of balls and inclined planes to produce tremendous
clamping torque in a relatively compact package.
❑ The balls and inclined planes act as force multipliers, enabling a Royal
closer to achieve up to four times the gripping torque relative to a
similarly-sized pure air closer. For example, our closers have a piston
surface area of 5.5 in 2 . and achieve an axial closing force at 100 psi of
2200 lbs.!
❑ Both our stationary and rotary high-torque collet closer models feature
Royal’s Accu-Length design where the collet and workpiece remain
axially-fixed for precise length control.

while maintaining a smaller footprint than pure air closers. At 100 psi, they produce 2200
lbs. of axial closing force.
❑ Accu-Length operation – collet and workpiece position remains fixed for precise length control.
❑ For non-rotating applications only (milling, drilling, tapping, fixture plates, tombstones, etc.).
❑ Four mounting holes on a 4.50" bolt circle diameter.
❑ Includes 5C collet wrench.
