GTAW (TIG) Pipe<br />

Course Description - Week 1<br />

Designed to instruct welding personnel in arc welding safety and the<br />

welding of the root and hot pass done with the GTAW (TIG) process.<br />

Fill and cap passes done with low hydrogen (Excalibur ® ) stick<br />

electrodes or as student’s ability dictates. GTAW (TIG) all the way out<br />

(root, hot, fill and cap) with carbon steel or stainless steel filler metal<br />

on carbon steel pipe. The material use for week one will be 6 inch<br />

schedule 40 and schedule 80 pipes.<br />

30 Clock Hours: Lab - 28, Class - 2<br />

Course Description - Week 2<br />

Designed to instruct welding personnel in arc welding safety and the<br />

welding of the root pass and hot pass done with the GTAW (TIG)<br />

process. Then fill and cap passes done with low hydrogen<br />

(Excalibur ® ) stick electrodes or as student’s ability dictates. GTAW<br />

(TIG) all the way out (root, hot, fill and cap) with carbon steel or<br />

stainless steel filler metal on carbon steel pipe. The material used for<br />

week two will be 2 inch extra strong pipe.<br />

30 Clock Hours: Lab - 28, Class - 2<br />

Prerequisites<br />

Students who have not passed the <strong>Lincoln</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> Welding School’s<br />

Basic Plate and Sheet Metal Course will be required to weld a<br />

sample test plate consisting of 3 pass vertical up and overhead<br />

welds with 6010 and 7018 electrodes which will be evaluated by an<br />

instructor before being permitted to start course. A basic<br />

understanding of TIG welding is helpful.<br />

Class is two weeks long, Monday thru Friday, 6 hours per day.<br />

30 hours per week.<br />
