melting of the hydrated basalt. This<br />

produces p intermediate ( (<strong>and</strong>esitic) ) magmas g<br />

which rise to form mountains (e.g. Andes).<br />

These magmas g can in turn melt continental<br />

crust producing granitic magmas.
