quality Indian machinery would still enjoy an edge over the Chinese products. It has to be
the endeavor of Indian exporters to maintain consistency in the quality, and at the same
time, to adopt more advanced production techniques to bring the prices competitive to that
of Chinese.
In fact, the Nigerian Government looks forward to India’s involvement in not only supplying
the machinery and equipment, but also helping Nigerians in soil testing, determining the
crop, start model farming with supply of machinery produced in India and also provide
know-how about the machinery. Nigeria hails India’s transition from an importer of food
grains to a country that is not only to able to effectively feed its population but also export
its agricultural products to other countries of the world.
Import tariff
The present tariff for tractors and agriculture is 10%, which is going to be reduced by 2.5
per cent, in the wake of the initiatives of the Government for promoting local production of
agricultural commodities.
It is expected that with the new policy initiatives, there would be a spurt in the importation
of agricultural machinery & parts and tractors into the country.
