<strong>and</strong> that they are properly relieved.<br />

148. Duties of Liaison Sergeant<br />

The liaison sergeant provides direct communication facilities<br />

between the troop comm<strong>and</strong> post <strong>and</strong> higher headquarters. He<br />

keeps informed of the existing tactical situation <strong>and</strong> the plans of<br />

the unit to which he is sent. Also, he may provide a radio relay<br />

station, carry messages <strong>and</strong> orders, <strong>and</strong> guide personnel or elements<br />

to the troop comm<strong>and</strong> post.<br />

149. Duties of Maintenance Sergeant<br />

The maintenance sergeant comm<strong>and</strong>s the maintenance section<br />

<strong>and</strong> advises the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> executive officer on maintenance<br />

matters. He supervises <strong>and</strong> trains mechanics, except the<br />

radio mechanics; requests, issues, <strong>and</strong> stores repair parts; keeps<br />

maintenance records; <strong>and</strong> exercises overall supervision of organizational<br />

maintenance.<br />

150. Duties of Key'Personnel in Administrative, Mess, <strong>and</strong> Supply<br />

Section<br />

a. The mess steward supervises the activities of the cooks, <strong>and</strong><br />

is responsible for the preparation of food for the troop.<br />

b. The supply sergeant is the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er's supply assistant.<br />

He maintains a h<strong>and</strong> receipt file on all property in the troop <strong>and</strong><br />

clothing <strong>and</strong> equipment forms, <strong>and</strong> obtains expendable supplies.<br />

151. General<br />

Section IV. EMPLOYMENT, GENERAL<br />

The armored cavalry troop is organized, trained, <strong>and</strong> equipped<br />

to perform reconnaissance <strong>and</strong> provide security for the unit to<br />

which assigned or attached. The troop may engage in offensive,<br />

defensive, <strong>and</strong> retrograde operations in the accomplishment of its<br />

missions.<br />

152. Employment of <strong>Armored</strong> <strong>Cavalry</strong> <strong>Troop</strong><br />

The armored cavalry troop operates under direct control of the<br />

parent squadron, or it may be attached to another unit as indicated<br />

below:<br />

a. <strong>Armored</strong> Division. The troop may be attached to a combat<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> when required to assist in the accomplishment of the<br />
