143. <strong>Armored</strong> <strong>Cavalry</strong> <strong>Platoon</strong><br />
The armored cavalry platoon organization is composed of a<br />
platoon headquarters, scout section, tank section, rifle squad, <strong>and</strong><br />
support squad. See paragraphs 75 through 80.<br />
Section IIIl. DUTIES OF KEY PERSONNEL<br />
144. Duties of <strong>Troop</strong> Comm<strong>and</strong>er<br />
The troop comm<strong>and</strong>er is responsible for the training, combat<br />
employment, health <strong>and</strong> welfare, discipline, <strong>and</strong> administration of<br />
the troop. To discharge these responsibilities efficiently, the troop<br />
comm<strong>and</strong>er must train <strong>and</strong> use his subordinates to the fullest<br />
extent. He must continually supervise the actions of the troop.<br />
The duties of armor unit comm<strong>and</strong>ers are discussed in <strong>FM</strong> <strong>17</strong>-1.<br />
145. Duties of Executive Officer<br />
The executive officer keeps abreast of the tactical situation <strong>and</strong><br />
must be prepared to assume comm<strong>and</strong> at any time. As the principal<br />
assistant to the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er, the executive officer supervises<br />
the functioning of the troop support elements <strong>and</strong> the<br />
activities of the troop comm<strong>and</strong> post. The executive officer is<br />
responsible for the movement, location, <strong>and</strong> security of the troop<br />
comm<strong>and</strong> post. He ensures that communication is maintained with<br />
the platoons, the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er, <strong>and</strong> the next higher headquarters.<br />
146. Duties of First Sergeant<br />
The first sergeant is the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er's administrative<br />
assistant; however, his duties may vary from administrative <strong>and</strong><br />
supply matters to comm<strong>and</strong> responsibilities. He assist the executive<br />
officer in comm<strong>and</strong> post control <strong>and</strong> represents him during<br />
his absence.<br />
147. Duties of Communication Chief<br />
The communication chief advises the troop comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong><br />
executive officer on all communication matters. He trains troop<br />
communication personnel <strong>and</strong> supervises the installation, operation,<br />
<strong>and</strong> maintenance of troop communication systems. During<br />
