squadron operations section over the squadron comm<strong>and</strong> net <strong>FM</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> coordinates aircraft operations with the division aviation<br />

company operations over the aviation company comm<strong>and</strong> nets.<br />

380. <strong>Squadron</strong> Radio Net Diagrams<br />

Figures 60 <strong>and</strong> 61, located in back of manual, show the authorized<br />

radio nets <strong>and</strong> type net diagrams for the armored division<br />

cavalry squadron <strong>and</strong> the infantry division cavalry squadron.<br />

381. <strong>Squadron</strong> Wire Communication System<br />

The squadron wire system is installed <strong>and</strong> operated by the<br />

squadron communication platoon. This system is installed whenever<br />

time <strong>and</strong> the situation will permit. It is normally used during<br />

periods of radio or listening silence, in defensive or stabilized<br />

operations, <strong>and</strong> in assembly areas. Wire lines are installed to each<br />

of the organic troops <strong>and</strong> attached units. To increase flexibility,<br />

lateral wire lines are installed to adjacent units whenever possible.<br />

Local wire lines are installed to the comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> to staff sections<br />

as required. Wire lines from supporting units are integrated<br />

into the squadron wire system. The division signal battalion<br />

is responsible for installing wire between the division <strong>and</strong><br />

the squadron whenever feasible. Figure 62 shows a type wire net<br />

diagram for the armored division cavalry squadron <strong>and</strong> infantry<br />

division cavalry squadron.<br />

382. <strong>Armored</strong> <strong>Cavalry</strong> <strong>Troop</strong> Communication System, General<br />

a. Comm<strong>and</strong> Post.<br />

(1) The troop comm<strong>and</strong>er normally controls his unit from<br />

the troop headquarters section tank or from his 1/4-ton<br />

truck.<br />

(2) The armored personnel carrier in troop headquarters<br />

serves as the troop comm<strong>and</strong> post vehicle.<br />

b. Communication Personnel. <strong>Troop</strong> communication personnel<br />

consist of a communication chief, two radio mechanics, <strong>and</strong> two<br />

intermediate speed radio operators.<br />

383. Radio Nets, <strong>Armored</strong> <strong>Cavalry</strong> <strong>Troop</strong><br />

a. <strong>Troop</strong> Comm<strong>and</strong> Net. The comm<strong>and</strong>er of an armored cavalry<br />

troop controls his unit over the troop comm<strong>and</strong> net <strong>FM</strong>. The troop<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>er, executive officer, platoon leaders <strong>and</strong> platoon sergeants,<br />

maintenance section, liaison sergeant, troop comm<strong>and</strong> post<br />

vehicle, <strong>and</strong> headquarters tank operate in this net.<br />
