COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, ARMORED CAVALRY UNITS<br />
377. General<br />
a. Radio is the primary means of communication within<br />
armored cavalry units. It provides comm<strong>and</strong>ers with the best<br />
means of communication for comm<strong>and</strong> of their units, control of<br />
fire support, <strong>and</strong> contact with higher headquarters.<br />
b. This chapter covers the communication systems of armored<br />
cavalry troops in the armored division, infantry division, <strong>and</strong><br />
armored cavalry regiment, <strong>and</strong> of the armored cavalry squadrons<br />
of the armored division <strong>and</strong> infanty division. Covered also are the<br />
communication systems of the scout platoon organic to armor<br />
battalions <strong>and</strong> armored infantry battalions <strong>and</strong> the scout section<br />
of the combat comm<strong>and</strong> headquarters <strong>and</strong> headquarters company.<br />
c. Definitions, descriptions, <strong>and</strong> details of signal communication<br />
pertaining to armored cavalry units are contained in <strong>FM</strong> 7-24 for<br />
infantry division units <strong>and</strong> in <strong>FM</strong> <strong>17</strong>-70 for armored division<br />
units.<br />
378. Comm<strong>and</strong> Post Radio Communication, <strong>Armored</strong> <strong>Cavalry</strong><br />
<strong>Squadron</strong><br />
a. The squadron headquarters operations, intelligence, air request,<br />
<strong>and</strong> logistical armored personnel carriers normally are located<br />
-in the squadron comm<strong>and</strong> post area. These vehicles are<br />
equipped with medium-power AM, radio teletypewriter (RATT),<br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>FM</strong> radio facilities to provide the squadron staff sections with<br />
the radio equipment required to perform their duties.<br />
b. To assist the operations section in planning, coordinating,<br />
<strong>and</strong> recording squadron combat operations, the radios in the<br />
operation <strong>and</strong> intelligence armored personnel carriers are operated<br />
in the following nets:<br />
(1) <strong>Squadron</strong> comm<strong>and</strong> net <strong>FM</strong>. The <strong>FM</strong> radio in the operations<br />
armored personnel carrier is the net control station<br />
of the squadron comm<strong>and</strong> net <strong>FM</strong>. This net links the<br />
squadron comm<strong>and</strong>er, fire support representatives, the<br />
staff, Army aviation, <strong>and</strong> the troop comm<strong>and</strong>ers. The<br />
