<strong>and</strong>, when possible, the degree <strong>and</strong> type of chemical, biological,<br />

<strong>and</strong> radiological contamination in an area. It includes any combination<br />

of the following:<br />

(1) Chemical monitoring. Efforts taken to detect <strong>and</strong>, when<br />

possible, identify toxic chemical agents, generally by use<br />

of a chemical agent detector kit.<br />

(2) Biological monitoring. Efforts taken to collect samples<br />

of biological agents, by means of sampling kits, when<br />

available.<br />

(3) Radiological monitoring. Efforts taken to detect <strong>and</strong><br />

measure radiation, through the use of radiac instruments.<br />

b. CBR Survey. A systematic search to determine the location,<br />

extent, degree, <strong>and</strong>, where possible, type of CBR contamination in<br />

an area. Survey parties are organized to conduct thorough<br />

searches as follows:<br />

(1) Chemical survey. An organized search to determine the<br />

location <strong>and</strong> extent of contamination in an area.<br />

(2) Biological survey. Same as chemical survey except the<br />

search is for biological agents.<br />

(3) Radiological survey. An organized search to determine<br />

the location, extent, <strong>and</strong> dose rate of radiation in an<br />

area.<br />

c. Survey Party. A survey party normally consists of a monitor<br />

<strong>and</strong> an assistant. The survey may be made mounted in a<br />

vehicle or aircraft or dismounted as required by the type of contamination.<br />

The assistant may drive <strong>and</strong> operate the radio. A<br />

survey party may be augmented by additional personnel for security<br />

or other reasons.<br />

d. Control Party. A control party is a group of individuals<br />

that coordinates the efforts of one or more survey parties under<br />

its control <strong>and</strong> reports CBR data to the appropriate higher echelon,<br />

radiological center (RADC), or chemical, biological, <strong>and</strong><br />

radiological section (CBRS) of division or higher headquarters.<br />

e. Survey Team. A survey team consists of a control party <strong>and</strong><br />

two or more survey parties.<br />

364. Monitoring Operations<br />

a. CBR monitoring is a comm<strong>and</strong> responsibility performed by<br />

all armored cavalry units. It is essentially a protective measure<br />

to detect the presence of CBR contamination.<br />

b. All armored cavalry units have radiac instruments, which<br />

they use to perform radiological monitoring. A monitor <strong>and</strong> as-<br />
