(1) Conducting reconnaissance over wide fronts <strong>and</strong> to extended<br />

including information of potential nuclear targets <strong>and</strong><br />

(3) Protecting the flanks of the division.<br />
(4) Providing security between elements of the division or between<br />
the division <strong>and</strong> an adjacent unit.<br />
(5) When reinforced, acting as a division covering force in<br />
offensive, defensive <strong>and</strong> retrograde operations.<br />
(6) Screening the concentration of elements of the division.<br />
(7) Securing rear areas, routes of communication, <strong>and</strong> installations<br />
from enemy airborne, air l<strong>and</strong>ed, or guerrilla<br />
forces.<br />
(8) Conducting offensive, defensive, <strong>and</strong> retrograde operations.<br />
(9) Maintaining liaison <strong>and</strong> contact between major units.<br />
(10) Providing emergency means of communication for higher<br />
headquarters through the use of radios, messengers, <strong>and</strong><br />
other facilities.<br />
(11) Conducting CBR monitoring <strong>and</strong> survey operations.<br />
(12) Performing damage control operations.<br />
2<strong>35</strong>. Administration<br />
The tactical success of the armored cavalry squadron requires<br />
adequate <strong>and</strong> continuous administrative support. In this support<br />
prior logistical planning is essential. Supply, medical evacuation,<br />
transportation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance must be adequate <strong>and</strong> timely.<br />
The procedures for all aspects of logistical support, the logistical<br />
elements available to the comm<strong>and</strong>er, <strong>and</strong> the employment of the<br />
squadron trains are covered in detail in <strong>FM</strong> <strong>17</strong>-50.<br />
Section II. ARMORED DIVISION CAVALRY SQUADRON<br />
ORGANIZATION<br />
236. General<br />
The armored division cavalry squadron consists of a headquarters<br />
<strong>and</strong> headquarters troop <strong>and</strong> four armored cavalry troops<br />
